Practical
pocket guide to interview
success
By
Damien Lynch
The
Australian Financial Review,
19
June 2007
Deborah
Barit once asked a senior management candidate at
a small, fast-growing company to name her greatest
strength. "I don't suffer fools gladly," was the
reply.
Unfortunately
this was the wrong answer because the candidate
would have been working very closely with a couple
of successful though inexperienced
entrepreneurs.
"An
attitude like that from the general manager would
have made the relationship unworkable," Ms Barit
said in her latest book, Impressive
Interviews,
a
pocket-sized personal interview
trainer.
According
to Ms Barit, a Sydney-based author, trainer and
consultant who specialises in preparing
individuals and groups in interview techniques, it
is the ability to think from the perspective of
the employer that is the secret of interview
success.
The
aim of the book, which is crammed with anecdotes
and exercises, is to help the reader walk into an
interview feeling confident and with a clear idea
of what the prospective employer expects. This
applies to all candidates, whether applying for an
administrative job or a senior management
role.
Happy
job hunting!
